LYRICS
Written by Joshua P. Warren
Roy came from TN in 1931
Them dynamite explosions then
The nights were hot
When Uncle Sam
----------------
Roy's buddy got a job at a hotel in the town
Then Howard Hughes
The nights were hot
When Roy's job
Now autos came from far and wide
------------
Now Alice had been in the town
He asked her if she'd go with him
The sun was purple on the rocks
Roy said it's paradise
Yeah, Roy said it's paradise
He took his fiddle and sat
In the middle of a train that barely run.
Uncle Sam said build this dam
For 60 cents and food
He camped in the desert
And sweated in the weather
But kept a cheerful mood.
Killed some o' the best,
But he hauled them rocks
And dragged the box
And laid 'em to their rest.
On dirty cots
And they couldn't have no beer,
But they snuck in a little
While Roy played his fiddle
And they made it through the years.
Said see the dam,
Your term's up if you like,
Ol' Roy said I'll try some more
O' this Boulder City life.
And then he hired Roy on
Draggin' baggage up and down.
Frankenstein showed up one day
Splittin' with his bride
He slapped Roy a 20
And said that's plenty
If u help me try and hide.
Won't wear no shoes,
And it ain't because he's poor,
And every day some yellow juice
Would appear outside his door.
On dirty cots
And they couldn't have no beer,
But they snuck in a little
While Roy played his fiddle
And they made it through the years.
Went to the mob,
And they told him take a hike,
Ol' Roy said I'll try some more
O' this Boulder City life.
As all the roads kept clearin'
People smiled for photos at
The dam's great engineerin'.
And ice cream shops and candy stores
Were spoken of in couplet
Cause everyone loves pictures of
The Winged Figures of the Republic
(Yeah, you try to rhyme that!)
Since 1935
And Roy'd had his eye on her
But she was awful shy
Out to see the dam
They ate some cheese and crackers there
And California ham.
The breeze was warm and calmin'
And they snuck in a little
While Roy played his fiddle
Until the sun was dawnin' . . .
And she became his wife
He knew that he
Was here to stay
In this Boulder City life.
And she became his wife
He knew that he
Was here to stay
In this Boulder City life!
